Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two
disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied,
and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The
Lord needs them,’ and he will send them at once.” This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the
prophet, saying,

“Say to the daughter of Zion,

them their cloaks, and he sat on them. Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut
branches from the trees and spread them on the road. And the crowds that went before him and that
followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the
Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying,
“Who is this?” And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”

So Abram went, as the LORD had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old
when he departed from Haran. And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their
possessions that they had gathered, and the people that they had acquired in Haran, and they set out to go to
the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan, Abram passed through the land to the place at
Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. Then the LORD appeared to
Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the LORD, who had
appeared to him. From there he moved to the hill country on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with
Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to the LORD and called upon the name of
the LORD. And Abram journeyed on, still going toward the Negeb.

Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. And as people migrated from the east, they
found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. And they said to one another, “Come, let us make
bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. Then they said,
“Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for
ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.” And the LORD came down to see the city
and the tower, which the children of man had built. And the LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and
they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they
propose to do will now be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so
that they may not understand one another's speech.” So the LORD dispersed them from there over the face
of all the earth, and they left off building the city. Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the
LORD confused the language of all the earth. And from there the LORD dispersed them over the face of
all the earth.

Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan. Cush fathered Nimrod; he was the first on earth to be a mighty man.
He was a mighty hunter before the LORD. Therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the LORD.”
The beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. From that land he went
into Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah, and Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city.
Egypt fathered Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, Pathrusim, Casluhim (from whom the Philistines came),
and Caphtorim.

Arkites, the Sinites, the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the clans of the Canaanites
dispersed. And the territory of the Canaanites extended from Sidon in the direction of Gerar as far as Gaza, and in the
direction of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. These are the sons of Ham, by their clans,
their languages, their lands, and their nations.

Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram. The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. Arpachshad
fathered Shelah; and Shelah fathered Eber. To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days
the earth was divided, and his brother's name was Joktan. Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, Obal, Abimael, Sheba, Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan. The
territory in which they lived extended from Mesha in the direction of Sephar to the hill country of the east. These are
the sons of Shem, by their clans, their languages, their lands, and their nations.

made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided. The fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens

of 150 days the waters had abated, and in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark came to

conceived and bore Cain, saying, “I have gotten a man with the help of the
LORD.” And again, she bore his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep,
and Cain a worker of the ground. In the course of time Cain brought to the LORD
an offering of the fruit of the ground, and Abel also brought of the firstborn
of his flock and of their fat portions. And the LORD had regard for Abel and
his offering, but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very
angry, and his face fell. The LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why
has your face fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do
not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must
rule over it.”

Cain spoke to Abel his brother. And
when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed
him. Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” He said, “I do
not know; am I my brother's keeper?” And the LORD said, “What have you done?
The voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the ground. And now you
are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your
brother's blood from your hand. When you work the ground, it shall no longer
yield to you its strength. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the
earth.” Cain said to the LORD, “My punishment is greater than I can bear. Behold,
you have driven me today away from the ground, and from your face I shall be
hidden. I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me
will kill me.” Then the LORD said to him, “Not so! If anyone kills Cain,
vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And the LORD put a mark on Cain,
lest any who found him should attack him. Then Cain went away from the presence
of the LORD and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
